SBA List: Supporting the Worst Anti-Choice Candidates of 2012
The 2012 elections showed voters - finally - just how extreme many anti-choice candidates really are. What voters may not have realized is that several of them were backed by the anti-choice and deceptively named Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List.
In 2012 alone, SBA List supported nine anti-choice candidates who would block abortion access for survivors of rape.
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA List, leapt to the defense of both men even when most of their party quickly unfriended them on Facebook. SBA List said, "Congressman Akin has been an excellent partner in the fight for the unborn." And in defending Mourdock's offensive statement, Dannefelser said, "we couldn't agree more."
Dannefelser also cheered the reelection of noted conservative zealots Michelle Bachman in Minnesota and Steve King in Iowa.
That's not all SBA List did in 2012. They kicked up their overall activities by endorsing in the presidential primary for the very first time. Unsurprisingly, they backed Rick Santorum - you know, the guy who said:
"One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country. It's not okay. It's a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be."
In the 2012 election cycle, SBA List also introduced a "pro-life" pledge for their endorsed candidates. Candidates who take the pledge promise to nominate anti-choice judicial nominees, select only "pro-life" people to key executive positions, and advance anti-choice legislation.
SBA List found out the hard way that voters don't want abortion to be banned - especially for rape survivors. So after the election, they launched a "training program" to teach anti-choice politicians how to hide their offensive views before elections and not talk about rape.
But we won't let SBA List hide anything about their extreme positions.
This blog post is part of a series that exposes SBA List's radical anti-choice agenda. Check back for our next post on the SBA List's support some of the most extreme anti-choice candidates in the 2013-2014 elections.
