Stand By Rape Survivors in the Military
On November 6, voters went to the polls and decidedly shut down some of the most extreme and anti-choice candidates who were outspoken in their opposition to abortion care for survivors of rape or incest.
From Rep. Todd "Legitimate Rape" Akin to Richard Mourdock to John Koster, candidate after candidate who showed zero compassion for rape survivors was shown the door. Clearly, these extreme anti-choice positions are completely out of touch with American values.
While we won these important victories at the polls, we're working to achieve one more win to show that Americans don't dismiss sexual-assault survivors - we stand up for them.
Current law denies women in the military who become pregnant as a result of rape from using their military health-insurance plan to cover abortion care.
The U.S. Senate is pressing to right this wrong and is poised to adopt the Shaheen amendment that would reverse the ban. However, Speaker John Boehner and other anti-choice leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives have blocked efforts to allow military women who are survivors of rape or incest to use their health-insurance plans to cover abortion services.
It's up to Boehner and the anti-choice majority in the House to stop putting politics before the health needs of servicewomen.
Stand with us and protect the rights and needs of our military women. Tell your lawmakers to support the Shaheen amendment and make sure that our servicewomen have access to the health services they need.

I stand by our women in the military to seek abortions or any other method of choice regarding their reproductive rights. Stand proud. Thank you for your service. Safe home.
It was an election about the soul of the country. Rove, Adelson, the Koch boys tried to buy it and pretty much failed. But not completely as people like Boehner, Cantor, Ryan and from right here in Pennsylvania Toomey and Fitzpatrick in Congress attest. Gotta get to work on 2014 NOW!!
It is time to really open up this discussion again for the newest generations. Our firm line in the sand has been redrawn backward far too many times. This is a safe, legal medical option protected by the Constitution. This is between a woman and her health care provider (and NOT someone else's version of their God)! End of issue! No more old, white men telling me what to do with my body!
Please support the Shaheen Amendment and make sure our servicewomen have access to the health services they need. I stand by our women in the military to seek abortions or any other method of choice regarding their reproductive rights.
we have to support our female military members if they have been raped, they should have available choices that we are fighting for ourselves. Abortion , birth control ob/gyn care by professionals. NOT in some back ally.
That servicewomen who become pregnant through rape cannot use their military health insurance to cover their abortion is unacceptable! These women fight for us, so in return we must fight for them. Women should always have the right to choose, and women in the military are no exception.
The women who so bravely serve our country should be allowed to have this fundamental freedom and not be stripped of this right to protect their bodies as victims of heinous crimes.
Retired military, I am. I call this Pecker Power. And, the reporting of such is a sick joke. Confidentiality? The inside grape-vine tops comms networks.
The emotional stability and status are the one being compromised once you've been sexually assaulted. This will affect the totality of being a person. Let's help to protect ourselves to avoid such horror. Or who knows it could be our own kids being at risk for such act. Give them this mobile phone safety were in they could press a panic button if they feel unsafe. Let's prioritize their the safety, Give them safety and security they must have. Let them feel that we are always there to protect them. For now it's better to consider "what if?" rather than taking risk. We may cope after the torment but their will always be whole which somebody took from you that could never be healed.
I was in the US Army for 6 yrs. I have been overseas, South America and stateside. I have made many good friends while in the military, but all males..no females. I have tried to establish friendships with fellow female soldiers, but usually they were married, arrogant or dam right rude. I can totally understand the females had to be a little rough on the outside to deal with advances..or sexual flirtations. But there was a few females who took avantage of their looks or sexuality to get "special" treatment, especially with higher ranking liaison, which would piss off other male soldiers. Apparently, this situation would happen quite a bit, especially if there was four females in a combat company with 200 males.
In my own opinion, the ratio of female to male soldiers should be at least 1 to 5. Otherwise, you are asking for trouble.
