Standing Up for Women on Fox News
Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, went on Fox News (yes--that Fox News) this weekend.
She was there to speak out against Texas' new law forcing a woman seeking abortion care in the Lone Star State to undergo an ultrasound and view the image--even if she does not want to, and even if her doctor does not recommend it.
Thanks, Nancy, for being fearless in speaking out for women's freedom and privacy.

Only one question: Just who is going to pay for these ultrasound that women have to have before they can get an abortion?
I wish Ms. Keenan had said why it's insulting to force this information on a woman-- we need not be infantilized as Ms. Yoest suggests. If the woman were an ob/gyn herself, would she still have to go through the ultrasound process? Love that Yoest admits that her anti-choice group Americans United for Life drafted the bill. This is a physical invasion and an insult to my intelligence and status as an autonomous adult.
Good for you, Nancy, for reiterating the point that this procedure can be mandated against the woman's consent and a doctor's recommendation. Insulting! Women know how to get the information they need to make an informed decision. This law implies that women are so damn stupid they need government to insist that doctors read to them.
GOVERNMENT IS BAD - EXCEPT WHEN IT LAYS DOWN THE LAW ABOUT ABORTION! THEN IT'S OK?
What wasn't it said that an ultrasound is always recommended by the doctor to make sure that the pregnancy is in the uterus and to gauge the gestational age of the pregnancy to determine what type of procedure is the best to be used. Why wasn't this mentioned???
And I second Sallie's comment! Republicans do not want big government except when it comes to women's reproductive lives!
The procedure of an ultrasound involves an external exam and then a vaginal probe inserted into a woman's body and moved around for further examination. This is invasive. To coerce a woman to undergo this without her consent defies medical ethics and common sense. Literate women are quite capable of reading a description of an embryo or fetus. Not readers? Watch a tape.
