And the Winners are...Hall of Fame and Shame 2011!
Thousands of people have spoken, and the winner of this year's NARAL Pro-Choice America Hall of Fame is:
Mississippians For Healthy Families!
This coalition of faith leaders, reproductive-justice and pro-choice allies, and other Mississippi-based groups successfully convinced their neighbors to reject a dangerous and far-reaching "personhood" measure.
Hats off to them!
And while we celebrate our pro-choice heroes, we recognize that 2011 brought a slew of new attacks on women's freedom and privacy, ranging from the tragic to the ridiculous.
Every bushel has its rotten apples, and this year, Fox News Channel was voted rottenest of them all.
Remember when a Fox News commentator compared insurance coverage of birth control to manicures and pedicures?
Remember when Bill O'Reilly said that many women won't use birth control because they're "blasted out of their minds when they have sex," and then said no-cost birth control would increase unemployment?
Remember when Sean Hannity said birth control is "not about women's health?"
We remember. And it looks like you did, too.
Fox News Channel is the newest member of the Hall of Shame.

One thing to Bill, if we are too blasted out of our minds to use birth control, then what's the problem? If we don't use it then it won't cost you a penny!
Amen Kristin!
I really love it when men try to decide what is and isn't good for a woman's health, body and well being/peace of mind. You don't have a woman's body, nor a woman's mind, so how can you know what would be good for us? No man should be allowed to make a decision about a woman's right to choose. They will never have to deal with the unwanted pregnancy, the physical effects of pregnancy, or the effects of keeping a baby that may have come from rape, incest, etc. How dare they decide the rights of our bodies for us?
Great Job, Mississippians!
You can be dang sure, if men were the ones faced with unwanted, unplanned pregnancies, there would be NO question of choice. They'd have it and then some. They have NO business deciding what's right for a woman's health and well being.
Going off what Kristin said, what birth control do women use on a long term basis that they need to implement in the midst of a "blasted" hook up?? Besides condoms (which the insurance law did not apply to) and things like sponges, foams and diaphragms (which, let's be honest, no one uses those anymore), all birth control is taken prior to sex, whether it be a few hours prior or a month prior or a year.
And also, that clip about insurance premiums.... Does he not realize how much $$ insurance companies dole out for abortions? Prenatal care? Child health care? I think they'd be glad to front the $10 pill copay in exchange.
I'm with Angel--if men were impacted by unintended pregnancies the way women are, most abortion clinics would have constantly spinning revolving doors.
Planned parenthood really beats the unplanned variety. But I'll never blame a woman for ending a pregnancy for any reason. She's obviously already achieved "personhood" and she should not be treated like a mere expendable walking incubator.
People can't afford to put food on their tables. Our economy is falling apart. So this is the best use of our politician's time? taking away the rights of women? really? So while they sit with their high paying jobs and guaranteed Cadillac health insurance, perhaps their time would be better spent on bigger national issues than negotiating our rights.
I propose we cut men off from sex who support "Not allowing women to use birth control". This may be the only way they'll "get it"..or in their case..'Not get it"..lol..Until men stop controlling us and support choice..CUT THEM OFF IN MISSISSIPPI!
"Blasted out of their minds when they have sex," is
not the only way Bill O'Reilly can have sex with women. He is also sexual predator at the workplace.
No sex without duress or intoxication of the victim.
BTW, the politicians who insert themselves in the personal health issues of women are creating a diversion; keeping the power of women focused on
women's issues and diverting the power of US women from other issues.
