Nancy Keenan: What Trust Women Means to Me
Happy Blog for Choice Day 2010, everyone! I'm so thrilled that this is our 5th annual Blog for Choice Day. It inspires me to see so many pro-choice Americans mark the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
This year, our question for bloggers is, "What does Trust Women mean to you?"
So - What does Trust Women mean to me? As with so many things in life, I can answer this from both the personal and political perspectives.
Personally, Trust Women means that women are smart, selfless, and thorough in their decision-making process. They are fully capable of weighing the implications of their decisions, and at the end of the day - they will make the best decision for them and those they love.
The political meaning behind Trust Women is deeply connected to my personal reasons. Women are smart, thorough, selfless people who approach the decisions they make about their lives and bodies with great care.
It is unconscionable that another individual - especially a politician - should be allowed to veto decisions women make about their own lives. We don't have to get permission from politicians to make decisions that are best for us. Period.
So those are my thoughts... and I can't wait to read all that you have to say. Thanks for blogging for choice!

I'm submitting this entry on behalf of a pro-choice American that does not have a blog.
Hi, I don't blog, tweet or Face book but I do e-mail and want to express my support for Pro Choice.
I had an abortion pre Roe vs. Wade, 1971. I became pregnant while using an IUD. My husband and I already had two young children. We were told that the " baby", if I even carried it to term, would be compromised because of the IUD's presence. I would require complete bed rest as well during the pregnancy
I was fortunate enough to have a team of doctors that had a system set up that allowed me to have a safe abortion.
In today's world this may not have been possible.
I want to be emphatic that I never had one moment of regret over this decision. My husband and I had three more children. One of whom is now an Ob-Gyn and very involved with Planned Parenthood.
We must not let "choice" be taken away from women!!!
We must win the minds of women and make them understand that they are empowered with Pro Choice. If they want to have a child or not the choice is theirs.
Most importantly is to educate women and men that using birth control is the best way. This is a big battle because of the religious groups that use " forever damnation" as a threat to women and men who choose to be conscientious.
Pro Choice takes nothing away, it gives choices.
I just wanted to add my voice to the others, even if it isn't on a blog or a tweet or a face book page. I hope you can add it some how to the list.
I will give you my name because I am proud to be Pro Choice.
