Updates on NARAL's Efforts to Stop the Stupak-Pitts Abortion Coverage Ban
Did you hear the latest from the mouth of Rep. Bart Stupak? In an article in the Detroit News, Rep. Stupak actually said:
"We are in contact with senators to make sure our language holds. The other side is playing with fire," added Stupak.
This guy is unbelievable, and here at NARAL Pro-Choice America, we're doing everything we can to make sure that his threat does not go unanswered.
Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, has appeared on multiple news programs this week to outline NARAL Pro-Choice America's efforts to stop the Senate from adding the anti-choice Stupak-Pitts language (as passed in the House) to its health-reform bill.
Here's a quick highlight reel of Nancy's appearances on "Andrea Mitchell Reports," MSNBC's "Dr. Nancy," "Morning Meeting with Dylan Ratigan," and HLN's "The Joy Behar Show:"
You can also view the entire clip of the segment she did on MSNBC's "Hardball with Chris Matthews:"
But wait! There's more! If you're into podcasts and NPR - and who isn't? - then you should definitely check out Nancy's spot on Talk of the Nation.
Finally, we have a new microsite that we're really excited for you to check out. It's called:
While you're there, be sure to sign our petition asking Sen. Reid to stand firm against attempts to attack women's access to insurance coverage for abortion.
At the time we published this blog post, we were at 35,786 signatures and counting... so be sure to check out the site and add your name to the petition!

When do we storm Washington? Tens of thousands of outraged women (and the men who love them) are ready.
Sharing an important legal assessment about the unconstitutionality of Stupak.

Writer is Marci Hamilton, ESQ:

She has been a visiting scholar at Princeton Theological Seminary, the Center of Theological Inquiry, and Emory University School of Law.
Professor Hamilton is an internationally recognized expert on constitutional and copyright law. She is frequently asked to advise Congress and state legislatures on the constitutionality of pending legislation and to consult in cases before the United States Supreme Court. Flores, 521 U.S. 507 (1997).
Professor Hamilton clerked for Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor of the United States Supreme Court and Chief Judge Edward R. Becker of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania Law School where she served as editor-in-chief of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Order of the Coif.
Professor Hamilton's most recent work is Justice Denied: What America Must Do to Protect Its Children (Cambridge 2008). A review of Justice Denied appeared on this site on June 25, 2008. Her previous book is God vs. the Gavel: Religion and the Rule of Law (Cambridge University Press 2005), now available in paperback. She is also a Board Member of NAPSAC. (from Findlaw site)
Please read and share this? I believe that Sarah Weddington and Kathryn Kolbert would agree with Ms. Hamilton's assessment.
So NARAL is upset about the proposed anti-choice health care reform. How sad! You lost my support when you called Mr. Obama a feminist. From the New Agenda: "He (Obama) appointed fewer women into his cabinet than President Bill Clinton. He surrounded himself with czars, more than 90% of whom are male. He appointed Larry Summers, of "girls are inferior in math and science" fame, to a key economic post. And he played basketball with men and men only."
As sad as it is that he appointed Larry Summers, given Summers' history at Harvard, it is even worst because Summers was one of the good ole boys that helped cause the economic recession that is hurting millions of people worldwide. Summers, Greenspan and Rubin ganged up against the woman who, years ago, was trying to warn Congress about unregulated derivatives. Brooksley Born, a Stanford University graduate who distinguished herself as a student as the first woman editor of the Stanford law review, testified before Congress, but was treated with disdain by the good ole boys in Congress and the aforementioned trio, and then sent her away humiliated and silenced, until recently. If the men had listened to Ms Born, we could have prevented the suffering that continues due to Wall Steet's excesses and lack of morality and ethics.
So, there you are NARAL! Do you still think President Obama is a feminist? If you do, then send your petition to him, not Reid, and let him put the pressure on the Democratic Congress. If he is a true feminist and not just another politican who wants to score a victory at whatever cause, he will stand up for a woman's ability to choose. You do not deserve our support until you put the pressure on your feminist candidate for president!
Well, Ms. Keenan, it seems you haven't been reading your comment section, because you are still emailing me to donate to your great cause.
Hello? I believe I stated in my last comment, that I would fight anyone or anything if they voted to use my taxpaying money to fund a bunch of grown (should be held responsible) women to abort their little baby simply because of an inconvenience and disruption of their lives. I am amazed at how selfish you all are. I am not concerned about adult women and how safe it is for them to abort their little babies, does the baby's life not count for anything at all, oh no,it is all abouta bunch of ridiculously selfish women who are so spoiled, being protected by people who have no respect for human life whatsoever. MS. KEENAN, I ASKED YOU IN MY LAST COMMENT, WHAT IF YOUR PARENTS HAD DECIDED TO ABORT YOU? WHOA, YOU WOULDN'T BE HERE TODAY WOULD YOU. YOU CERTAINLY WOULDN'T BE IN THE FIGHT TO KILL INNOCENT LIVES AND EXPECT THAT TAXPAYERS FOOT THE BILL FOR EVERYTHING, GOTTA KEEP THESE WOMAN SAFE, TO HELL ABOUT THE BABIES. I do pray that God give you some wisdom to change the things you are doing and see how he values each and every life. I pray that he will have mercy on you, and that you gradually come to terms of your actions. PLEASE DONT EMAIL ME FOR A DONATION, I FIND THAT VERY OFFENSIVE.
