Surprise: Anti-choice Senators Block Nominee to the Federal Court!
I'm sure you're as shocked as I am... but did you know that the madness described below has been going on since... oh April?! Yep, April. Nancy was blogging about it on Huffington Post and right here on our blog. The health-care reform and the Sotomayor confirmation drowned out the anti-choice objections, but only temporarily. So please, read the language below - excerpted from an email alert we sent out - and then take action. We need all the help we can get!
Right-wing senators are blocking Judge David Hamilton's confirmation to a position on the federal court because he has issued pro-choice rulings.
We can't let anti-choice politicians win this fight.
The Senate could take action as early as tomorrow. Help us confirm this highly qualified nominee to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals -- please contact your senators today.
The right wing has turned Judge Hamilton's nomination into a circus. He's widely respected, earning praise from the New York Times editorial board and garnering the bipartisan support of his homestate senators.
But anti-choice senators boycotted Hamilton's first committee hearing, and anti-choice Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma has threatened to filibuster him.
Their stall tactics have worked! Judge Hamilton is President Obama's very first nominee to the federal courts, but his nomination has been held up since June.
We need to urge the Senate to bring Judge David Hamilton's nomination to a floor vote. Even if you have contacted your senators before in favor of Judge Hamilton, please send them an email again.
After you take action, please forward this blog post to your friends and ask them to get involved.

Thanks for nothing for supporting Obama in the primary -- it was clear from a close reading of his materials that he was a complete phony as a supporter of choice.
What happened last night was a body blow to pro-choice supporters.
Let's not blame those anti-choice legislators who voted their conscience last night, at least they stuck to their principles.
Where were the so-called pro-choice legislators last night? They didn't care about choice, they were practicing politics as usual; once again they did not have the courage of their at least professed convictions, once again we were used as pawns in a larger game.
Let's let those electeds who claim they are pro-choice advocates know we are watching and listening to their words and deeds as this bill progresses. It is an OUTRAGE that this issue was used to get a health care reform bill passed by the House. Without those 60 anti-choice votes this bill was DOA.
In a country where doctors wear bullet proof vests and are willing to die for a woman's right to choose it is disgraceful that the Speaker would be proud of what she did last night. While I applaud the many Congresswomen who spoke against the amendment, they voted for the bill anyway.
Speaker Pelosi used women to get her bill to conference; now she claims they will try to find "common ground" on this issue. I don't see any common ground, do you?
NARAL came out early for Obama and has aided many of those who did not stand strong for choice last night.
I hope that NARAL is out there every day in the media and the halls of Congress working to remove this amendment and sends the message to all its members to let their representatives in the House and Senate know that any elected who votes for a health care bill with this affront to American women does so knowing that NARAL and its members will be supporting another candidate in the next election.
I am letting the President, and my congressional representatives know what my plan is.
And that is change I can believe in!
