Myth Busters #2: New Health-Care System Expands Coverage of Abortion?

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Yesterday, we blogged about the new NBC poll that said that 50 percent of respondents believe the new health care plan will use taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions. This outlandish claim is WRONG and we fought back with the facts.

Today, we want to share with you an anti-choice video from the ill-titled www.StopTheAbortionMandate.com and then give you another fact to bust the myth that the new health-care system would expand coverage of abortion... 'cause it's just not true.

Now ordinarily, we don't promote the anti-choicer's videos. But we want to make an exception because this video pretty accurately sums up the nonsense we're up against. Take a look:

Unfortunately, this is the lying machine we're fighting as we work to spread the truth.

The first thing I'd recommend showing people that believe that the new health-care system will expand coverage of abortion is our own video:

Then, I'd hit 'em up with the knowledge:

FALSE CLAIM: The new health-care system will expand coverage of abortion beyond its current scope.
FACT: Wrong. Currently, more than 80 percent of private insurance plans cover abortion care. (Source: Table 1, page 75)

In the new system, consumers could choose a plan that does not offer abortion care if they like, just as they could choose a plan that does or does not offer dental or vision coverage.

Please help us spread the truth! Link to this blog post on Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter, or email the text below to your friends and family.
