Nominate Your Women's Health Hero!
Our Bodies Our Blog is a great blog, run by the folks at Our Bodies Ourselves, which I find really useful. It's even in the Blog for Choice blogroll (see bottom, right sidebar)! So, when I learned about a contest that they're running, and I wanted to be sure to pass that information along. From their email:
Our Bodies Ourselves is pleased to announce that we will be accepting nominations on April 1, 2009 for our Women's Health Hero contest. The goal of the contest is to honor those who make a significant difference in women's lives. We'd love to shine a light on the every day heroes who make such huge differences, and we can with your help. This contest is free and anyone can enter it.
Sounds great to me! For more information, check out their contest rules:
When you hear the words "Women's Health Hero," who comes to mind? Your 9th grade health teacher who taught you about sexually transmitted infections? The midwife who sat with you through 15 hours of labor? The young Nigerian activist you read about who's working to end gender discrimination in her country? Or maybe the neighbor who counter-protests at the abortion clinic every Saturday morning?
Whoever your heroes are, we want to know about them! We've created the Our Bodies Ourselves Women's Health Heroes awards to honor those who make significant contributions to the health and well-being of women. It's a great way to publicly recognize people who make a difference in your life or the lives of others.
Definitely visit their site to learn more and don't forget to submit your nomination today.
The deadline is May 1, 2009 and they're accepting written or video submissions. Very cool.
