Gov. Sarah Palin, Indiana Right to Life, and Fundraising
Yikes! I definitely did not appreciate waking up this morning to read this AP headline, "Palin To Indiana For Right To Life Dinner As Alaskans Scratch Heads." Worse, it was front-and-center on The Huffington Post and MSNBC was running coverage.
From the article:
This week, lawmakers in Alaska are slashing Gov. Sarah Palin's budget ahead of a Sunday adjournment. Instead of staying in Juneau, Palin plans to attend a partisan fundraiser: a Thursday night county right-to-life dinner in Indiana.
Close to 5,000 people are expected to show up for the event. "We are probably going to be 5 or 6 fold the number we would normally have for a banquet this size," Vanderburgh County Right To Life Director Mary Ellen Van Dyke said. Palin's husband Todd and son Trig are traveling with her.
It's not getting any easier for Palin, who is becoming a more polarizing figure at home while she tries to maintain a national profile from one of the most remote states in the union.
Ok, so Gov. Palin is back. I get it. And I can't say I'm shocked to learn that she's venturing into the lower-48 to speak at an Indiana Right to Life dinner... I mean, NARAL Pro-Choice America has always known that Gov. Palin is anti-choice - that's why we worked so hard to defeat her and her anti-choice running mate, Sen. John McCain, during the 2008 elections.
Gov. Palin's appearance in Indiana coincides with an article that ran in today's Politico, "Friends, foes cash in on Palin:"
And NARAL Pro-Choice America used direct mail and e-mail solicitations targeting Palin to boost its fundraising "significantly" in 2008, said spokesman Ted Miller.
"Although she has taken a somewhat lower profile now, if she chooses to reemerge and take on a more public profile in either attacking President Obama or pushing anti-choice policies, our members will respond in kind," Miller said.
It'll be interesting to see what she says to the Indiana Right to Life group. Rest assured that NARAL Pro-Choice America is following her appearance, and will keep you posted on anything that is sure to transpire.

"The candidates and causes that have climbed aboard the Palin gravy train include, but aren’t limited to, abortion rights foes and supporters, environmental groups and political committees supporting both Republican and Democratic candidates. It’s a testament not only to her star power but also to the strong feelings she generates among partisans" (Vogel).
Can we please just stop giving her so much attention? The Indiana bill is awful, but by feeding into the Palin frenzy so much, I feel like we've given her more influence than she deserves.
If your position is so right you should not be concerned about the other side getting its position out. I find it peculiar that in this post you are doing the exact thing you accuse Palin and her followers of doing. You are using her to boost your coffers and work your followers into a tizzy.
For the past several days, NARAL's homepage had prominently featured a picture of George W. Bush, while NARAL's blog has prominently featured a picture of Gov. Sarah Palin.
And here I thought that the 2008 elections happened in, well, 2008.
How about doing an analysis of all the great pro-choice moves Obama has put into motion in his first 100 days? How about telling us how many cosponsors Prevention First is up to today? How about detailing your plan of action for working with Kathleen Sebelius when she's confirmed as HHS secretary? How about looking forward instead of reaching backwards?
Is fundraising really that bad over there?
Fundraising sounds good!
NARAL is the most disgraceful organization I have seen, and I find it disgusting that they think it's okay to kill babies before they are born! Pro-choice indeed! I don't think the baby had a choice. Babies are a blessing, and for any Christians out there, it says so in the Bible and we all know not to kill.
