Martin Heinrich (NM-01), welcome to Congress

Congratulations New Mexico. Not only did you decisively choose pro-choice Obama over anti-choice McCain, you also selectd pro-choice Martin Heinrich as your next Congressman for NM-01. Well done, you guys.

I'm starting to feel like a game-show host.

Anyway, via the New Mexico Independent:

Like New Mexico often does, the 1st Congressional District seat followed the national zeitgeist Tuesday, sweeping Martin Heinrich into office on the crest of a Democratic tidal wave.

Heinrich, 37 and a former Albuquerque city councilor, beat Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White convincingly in a 10-point victory. It was a historic win. With his victory, Heinrich becomes the first Democrat ever elected to represent Albuquerque in the 1st Congressional District.

Another fun New-Mexico-related fact: In New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District, NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC-endorsed candidate Harry Teague defeated anti-choice Ed Tinsley. The entire New Mexico congressional delegation in now pro-choice.
