Bad news from Colorado: "Anti-abortion measure OK'd"

State election officials say a proposed state constitutional amendment defining a fertilized human egg as a person has enough petition signatures to get on the November ballot.
Secretary of State Mike Coffman says in a Thursday announcement that backers turned in an estimated 103,000 valid signatures, far more than the 76,000 required.
Coffman says the estimate is based on an examination of a computer-selected random sample of about 6,500 of the signatures, or 5 percent of the 130,000 submitted.
Coffman's spokesman, Rich Coolidge, says any appeal of the decision would be made in state district court.
Some supporters hope the amendment, if passed, will restrict or limit abortions in Colorado.

Okay. You guys wanna talk about sexism? How about this: EMILY's List endorsed Nikki Tinker over Steve Cohen. Why did they do this? Because:
"This is an extraordinary circumstance for us. We don't make these decisions lightly," said EMILY's List spokeswoman Ramona Oliver. "Nikki ran a strong race in 2006 has put a strong race together in 2008, and she's the only woman in this race."
I'll repeat that: They endorsed a reactionary corporate shill who has nothing to offer as far as issues are concerned (look at her website if you don't believe me) over a stellar progressive who has spent his first term in congress championing equal rights for his constituents (his district is 60% African-American) and introducing bills to end the Iraq War. They did it because the corporate shill is a woman, and the stellar progressive is not.
I didn't say it, Oliver did.
Sweet mother, gender identity politics at its very, very worst. I guess as long as the candidate is a woman that makes her superior for women, regardless. PATHETIC. We have got to get past the gender identity politics!!
