ABC News: McCain Poised to Flip on GOP Abortion Platform
In case you missed it, on Friday, ABCNews reported that McCain is poised to "flip" on GOP abortion platform:
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., faces enormous pressure from social conservatives to ignore his repeated commitment to change the GOP's platform on abortion.
"If he were to change the party platform," to account for exceptions such as rape, incest or risk to the mother's life, "I think that would be political suicide," said Tony Perkins, the president of the conservative Family Research Council, to ABC News. "I think he would be aborting his own campaign because that is such a critical issue to so many Republican voters and the Republican brand is already in trouble."
Hmmmm. This story hasn't really had the traction you might expect it would. Think Progress covered it, but that's all I've seen. Has anyone else seen other coverage?
Hopefully reporters will stay on this story to get to the truth: McCain is anti-choice, and he has the 25-year voting record to back it up. Pandering can't change the truth.

NARAL was premature in endorsing Barak Obama. I am disappointed that you chose to to take this action before the choice of a candidate was finalized. Had there been an anti-choice vs a pro-choice candidate I could understand your decision. Hillary Clinton has been a positive voice for choice and you have unnecessarily harmed her candidacy.
Well done NARAL. I understand there was pressure on you to do this sooner and respect that you waited until it was clear the nomination fight was over out of respect for Sen. Clinton. We are fortunate to have two strong pro-choice candidates leading us to victory. It looks like you'll take some heat from some folks, but you've done the right thing and the right time. We need to focus on uniting behind pro-choice values and leave the petty politics behind.
I am disappointed NARAL would endorse Obama over Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton has always been a strong voice for pro-choice. She is the best candidate to go up against John McCain in the fall. You have done her a disservice by your endorsement of Obama as well as all of the women who have supported NARAL over the years.
How dare you come out against a pro-choice woman on a woman’s issue by indorsing a man who doesn’t stand a chance in the general election? Today you have helped a pro-lifer to 4 more years in the White House. I’m so made at you people I could just spit. Who made this decision and what were you thinking? How dare you slap a woman in the face who has supported a woman’s right to chose all these years? It was stupid and an insult to woman everywhere.

Mad... I meant to say I am so mad I could spit.
I applaud your endorsement of Senator Obama. I am sorry and ashamed for my gender about the nasty comments you have had to endure. What are those people thinking?? Clinton cannot get to the nomination and if she had been able to, she could NOT have won. Let's be practical here.
I have yet to see any of these rabid Clinton supporters acknowledge the incredible greed of the Clintons. They lived in the White House for eight years. Enough already! Give someone else a chance and your support. I am a pro-choice progressive feminist who is furious with "Hillary" for refusing to accept reality and forcing a continuation of a confrontation that only weakens Democrats as she very well knows.
