40 percent of NC pharmacies don't carry emergency contraception
NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina has found that about 40 percent of the state's pharmacies don't carry emergency contraception.
The survey conducted by NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina also found that roughly a third of those pharmacies don't stock the pill sold as "Plan B" because they refuse to order it.The group attributed the pill's unavailability to confusion and moral opposition among pharmacists, and said the numbers are a cause for concern because Plan B can help prevent unintended pregnancies for women who have been sexually assaulted.
"Availability of emergency contraception is critical to reducing unintended pregnancy," said Melissa Reed, the executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina.
NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina also found that a lot of the pharmacists were misinformed about EC.
Additionally, the N.C. Board of Pharmacy's policy is that pharmacists "do not have a right to obstruct otherwise legitimate prescription dispensing or delivery solely on the basis of conscientious objection."
Jay Campbell, executive director of the board says, "As a practical matter, I don't know why they would not carry a product that customers need...The board views the affirmative obstruction of access to care as unprofessional." Indeed.

If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament. Florynce Kennedy
This was an important message in the 1970's & still is today. The changes I seein 2007: If men could get pregnant, there would be more abortion clinics than there are Starbucks. They'd have free beer on tap, ESPN, women dressed in skimpy outfits ala Hooters & they would be open 24/7. YOu might even get your oil changed while you wait.
My personal opinions: When men CAN get pregnant, they can have a say in abortion.

I am appalled by the attack on birth control! My horror stems from both the obvious reasons (millions of unwanted children, rape victims forced to bear their violator's kids, more need for abortion clinics, etc.) but also for a less obvious reason - my own health! I have been taking birth control pills (Tri-Levlen) since I was 13 years old to control extremely erratic menstrual periods steming from what is suspected to be a pituitary gland problem. Until my gynecologist prescribed the pills, I would go for months without a period, then have a heavy one for nearly three weeks. For a period (excuse the pun) of about three months before my doctor suggested the pills, I had a "cycle" every other week. I know they are supposed to be irregular in young teens, but my problem was getting ridiculous. I won't even get into the PMS, except to say that the cramps were so bad that I couldn't eat, sleep, or sit for longer than an hour. I missed so many afternoons at school that my 6th period teacher forgot who I was!! It only took a month for the periods to regulate after I was put on the pills, and the cramps subsided enough to be tolerable within two months.
I know my problem is pretty rare, but I had other friends in high school who were put on the pills to control symptoms much more minor than mine. It allowed them to function while their bodies adjusted to the menstrual cycle, and made their periods more predictable. Why is this use for "The Pill" never brought up in the debate about birth control access? It has apparently never occurred to the anti birth control forces that some of the uses of the pill are medicinal, or do they think women deserve to suffer horribly when "Eve's Curse" comes upon them?!?

Sorry - my comment was a little off the subject, but I really needed to get it off my chest. I think all birth control options (including Plan B) should be stocked by all pharmacies. It's basic "customer care." Does "Plan B" have a medicinal purpose for women besides emergency contraception? We may never know if access to it continues to be restricted by the self-righteous!!

It's becoming more and more obvious that the true motives for taking away access to abortion and / or birth control is that our dear men in government want to control us. It has nothing to do with a child's life, morality or anything else they're spewing. Religion is just an excuse to make it "look good" and appear to have "God's backing". In their eyes, women are expendible and nothing more than baby making machines.
Think about it, abortion banned - even in cases where the mother's life is at stake? Talk about hypocritical - Spewing the morality of killing an unborn child - what about the morality of murdering a teen girl or woman?
