Male contraception on the way

More contraceptive choices are always a good thing…

A new study suggests that men taking hormonal contraception, likely to be available in the near future, regain their fertility in three months.

That’s good news. Researchers say that the first kinds of male contraception (the hormonal kind) will come in a patch, topical gel or bimonthly injection. The only problem is—will men take it? It seems that the responsibility for birth control has rested on women’s shoulders for so long that it may take some convincing…

Male contraception? I'd take it if it wasn't in a bi-monthly shot form. I already take allergy shots. My doctor requires that I visit their office once a month and wait for thirty minutes while they monitor me. I think it's a scam. They charge me a lot of money over the course of a year for this service -- something we used to do at home when I was a young kid.

Other than condoms, the responsibility of planned contraception has been on women's shoulders for my entire life. It will take some getting used to. I think my wife is much more responsible then I am. She has developed a strong physical habit for taking the pill. It'll take guys like me a while to develop the same responsibility.

The problem with male contraceptives is women will still need to take something because they won't know if the male has taken it. Women are the one who will have to carry the baby, so they should make sure they aren't going to get pregnant by relying on themselves and not their partners.
