Women sue Wal-Mart over EC

It’s about damn time. Three women in Massachusetts are suing Wal-Mart, saying the company doesn’t stock emergency contraception which they are required to do by state law.

"Wal-Mart apparently thinks it is above the law," said Sam Perkins, a lawyer for the three plaintiffs.

...The suit, backed by Planned Parenthood of Massachusetts, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts and Jane Doe Inc., argues Wal-Mart is violating a state policy that requires pharmacies to provide all "commonly prescribed medicines." They are suing to force compliance with the regulation through the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act.

"Massachusetts pharmacies are required to stock all medications that are commonly prescribed to meet the usual needs of the community," Perkins said.

The three women who brought the suit were all turned away from Wal-Mart when they tried to buy emergency contraception.

Is anyone surprised? Is anyone on this site still shopping at Wal-Mart? They have ruined the economies of countless small towns and those cheap clothes were made for less than even the Chinese minimum wage. Not surprising that they wouldn't want women in the U.S. to be able to take control of their own bodies either.

I hope Sam Perkins nails them to the "Wal".

Wal-Mart is known for having violations against women's rights in general. Look at all the issues they have had with the way in which they treat female employees. I am not one bit surprised that a situation like this has occurred, but I am apalled. I hope they are punished to the fullest extent of the law-not that that will hurt the Wal-Mart "empire" much at all. Kind of disappointing that the store has so little respect for the people that do so much shopping there. If they would look at who, demographically, purchases more at Wal-Mart, they would realize the people they are persecuting are their very wallet.

I just read the CNN article and am a bit miffed. How interesting the person who actually wrote it didn't post their name! I mean, come on: "Pro-Abortion people"?! "So-called 'morning after pill'"?!! Guess we know the writer's position.... the unenlightened idiot!!

LilacSpryte, The person who "wrote" the article doesn't have control of how AP wire subscribers credit their stories. Simply putting (AP) is enough. While I agree the wording in the story was poor, do not assume that the author is hiding something because CNN credits stories from the AP wire to AP.
