Good news in Kansas
Is it possible?
Our fave love-to-hate-him Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline was probably not too pleased recently when a judge ruled that he had no valid claim to sue Gov. Kathleen Sebelius over state-funded abortions for Medicaid recipients.
"To the extent that the federal government has 'occupied the field,' all of the branches of state government are required to yield to the laws and regulations of the United States of America," Bruns wrote in his 24-page opinion. "This is true even in cases in which the majority of citizens in a state may disagree with the action taken by the federal government."
Now if we could just stop him from prying into private medical records...

I laud Judge David Bruns decision. It was the correct one. I however, feel the brunt of a double edged sword here. If Roe v.wade gets overturned by our impending conservative court, will that allow them to rule that the federal government has "occupied the field" in overruling abortion rights when it comes to individual states that rule abortion to be a viable alternative for women, even if the majority of that state feel it to be so?
It would be ironic, to say the least, if republicans, the so called "champions" of state rights use such an arguement to foist their facsist agendas on women and women's rights.
There is a section here regarding filibusters. I see nothing radical in engaging in such an action if it is for the the benefit of those who would suffer the most from idiotic governmemt decisions. We are a democracy, are we not? Or are we sheep being led to the slaughter of special interrests?
I, as a male, cannot feel the anxiety i am shure many of you women feel, but I still feel deep anger when it comes to the injustices that we were supposed to have corrected in the recent past. We cannot allow the downward slide to continue. The voices were loud enough to be heard in the 70's. I think they can be loud enough again if we choose to start shouting again
