Yet another reason why...

I heart Barbara Boxer:

Sen. Barbara Boxer said she would vote against John Roberts' nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, if she remains convinced he doesn't support abortion rights.

Boxer, fearing a more conservative court could lead "to the days of back alley illegal abortions," said pointedly of President Bush's pick to succeed Justice Sandra Day O'Connor: "Judge Roberts cannot duck this issue."

"I need to know exactly where he stands and I need to know whether he would fight to protect the rights and freedoms of the American people," said Boxer, D-Calif. "If I don't believe he will, I won't vote for him."

Damn straight!

Barbara Boxer shows where the leadership in WA-DC is coming from. NARAL made its point with its infomercial expose of Robert's civil rights history.
NARAL made a good early move to put readers onsite in Simi, the trove of documents of the early Roberts anti civil rights practice when he was in the counsel's office at the White House of Reagan. Today administration attorneys according to media had sealed off several thousand documents at the Reagan Simi presidential library from public view. If the administration releases those documents before the September 6 Roberts hearing, NARAL should study them and complete the picture of Roberts the young civil rights exterminator for Reagan.
It is nice we forget how reactionary Reagan was, most of us. These must be better times. NARAL and Barbara Boxer rightfully are going to get Roberts on paper now regarding what his more mature views of civil rights are. NARAL is leading in this important field. Congratulations.

Good for her. I so appreciate how great our women senators have been this year--in pushing for answers from Roberts, in pushing for nonprescription access to EC, etc. If only the men would get their shit together and stand up for women as well...
