The New York Times abortion coverage falls short

So the NY Times has been on quite the roll with it’s coverage of abortion lately. And while I’m pleased that the issue is getting so much attention (cause women NEED to know what’s going on), it seems that the paper is convinced that the Dems—and even pro-choice groups—are taking a less “hard-line” approach to choice issues.

Twice in the last month, the NY Times ran front page stories on abortion, and both were about this supposed “watering down” of the pro-choice movement.

The much-discussed Hillary article gave the impression that she was moving away somewhat from her previous strong support for choice; but really the opposite is true. Then a Feb. 16th piece went into even more detail on this theory about political parties distancing themselves from the choice issue.

This story, along with other abortion coverage, ignores the fact that all recent polling shows that a majority of Americans continue to support a woman’s right to choose and don’t want Roe v. Wade overturned. And why isn’t the media talking about anti-choice groups and their refusal to discuss prevention?

I’m not against discussing the nuances of pro-choice positions, but with women’s right to choose on the line in such a real way, our focus needs to stay where it belongs—keeping Roe safe.

Sorry, just a bit of a rant…
